Harigobind was born on June 14th 1595 AD at Guru Ki
Vadali in Dist. Amritsar. As the sixth Sikh Guru due to
the oppressive nature of the state during his time, he
transformed the character of the Sikh Movement and
martialized it as a precaution against future
contingencies. He put on two swords, one signifying Miri
(Temporal) and the other Piri (Spiritual). Guru Harigobind was imprisoned by the Emperor in the fort of Gwaliar for one year. When he was released he insisted that he could not be free until 52 of his fellow prisoners who were Rajput Rajas (kings) were also set free. It was agreed upon and on the orders of the Emperor Jahangir that they were also released from prison. Guru Harigobind traveled extensively covering many parts of Punjab, Delhi, Pilibhit and Kashmir to meet his devotees and inspire them to imbibe higher ideals in life. |
