Guru Harirai
was born on February 26h 1630 AD at Kiratpur, Dist. Ropar
in Punjab. As the seventh Sikh Guru he travelled through
Doaba and Malava regions of Punjab to consolidate the
gains of the Sikh Movement. He maintained a Cavalry of
2200 horses yet devoted himself to the art of peaceful
living. He helped Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Emperor
Shahjahan when he was in distress. Emperoror Aurangzeb
summoned the Guru on this account. Guru Harirai instead
sent his son Ram Rai to Delhi. In order to win over the
bigoted Emporer Aurangzeb, Ram Rai substituted a word in
the Sat Guru Granth Sahib listed as baiman for Musalman.
When Guru Harirai heard this news he excommunicated Ram
Rai as he could not maintain the sanctity and integrity
of the Sat Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh scriptures). Guru
Harirai later nominated his younger son Harikrishan as
his successor. |
