GURU NANAK DEV JI

Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469 - 539 AD) was the founder of Sikhism which is comprised of the essence of the combined message of 10 Gurus. From childhood he was very pious and drawn to the divine.

He travelled the length and breadth of Asia spreading his message of love and service to humanity. During his first Udasi (preaching odyssey) Guru Nanak Dev along with Bhai Mardana vsited Goindwal, now in district Amritsar (India).

Here he called on a leper and asked his permission to spend a night in his cottage. The leper was amazed and filled with joy and said

"Even the animals would not come nearby, but because of the grace of God I have come across a human being." Whereas at the very sight of the Guru, the leper was cured of leprosy. These are the ways of men of God who by way of compassion cure the ills of humanity.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji said on the divinity of ALL existence:

'The One Lord is within thy home and the One without. He Himself is found within all places.' (Sat Guru Granth Sahib 45:67)

'The Lord Himself is the Relisher, Himself the Relish, and Himself the enjoyer. He himself is the Bride and Himself the Couch and Bridegroom. My Master is dyed with love and is fully pervading everywhere. He himself is the fisherman, and the fish and Himself the water and the net. He Himself is the metal ball of the net and Himself the bait within.' (Sat Guru Granth Sahib - 23:36)
